Do I have to choose a wedding cake from your portfolio?
All of the wedding cakes in the portfolio are individually designed. You can certainly order a wedding cake from the website, however, the cake can be designed to suit your specific style and requirements.
How much does a cake cost?
The size of the cake and the type will determine the basic price and then the work on the cake; intricate piping, sugar flowers etc will determine the final price. I will endeavour to work with you to create a cake to suit your budget and the number of portions you require.
How far in advance do I need to order?
I would advise a minimum of three months, however, if your wedding is in peak season i.e. June, July or August, it is advisable to contact me as soon as possible.
Are you able to deliver the cake to the reception for us?
Free delivery and setting up of the cake is included in the price up to a 10 mile radius from the shop address. However, deliveries further afield can also be accommodated and delivery prices can be quoted on request.
Can I collect and set up the wedding cake myself?
If you do not wish for your cake to be delivered and set up at your wedding venue, you may collect your cake yourself. However, please note that if the cake is collected, full responsibility for the safety of the cake is with the client and Rebecca Gilmore Cakes will not be responsible for any damage to the cake after it has left the premises.
Can the flowers on the cake be coloured to my specifications?
All of the flowers you see on the cakes have been hand made by myself from sugarpaste. If there is a particular colour you have in mind and you have a swatch of material or ribbon which matches your colour scheme, I will be able to colour the flowers to coordinate.
Are the sugarflowers edible?
Although the sugarflowers on my cakes are made from icing, I would not recommend that they be eaten as many of the flowers have wires in them and would be dangerous to consume.
Please also note that accessories such as brooches, ribbons, beads, feathers etc, that are used to decorate the cake are also inedible and should be removed from the cake before serving.
What flavour cake can I have?
Flavours include traditional rich fruit cake, rich chocolate cake, Madeira cake and Madeira cake flavoured with cherry, coconut, citrus, coffee, banana, carrot, red velvet and nut. If you have a particular favourite flavour this can be accommodated.
Multiple tier cakes can consist of a mixture of cake flavours at no extra cost.
Can you make cakes for those who have special dietary requirements?
Lactose, dairy, gluten or wheat free - If required I can make cakes which are free from wheat, gluten, dairy and lactose.
Nut Free - Although I can make cakes from recipes which do not include nuts, I cannot guarantee that the cake will be 100% nut free due to the cake being prepared in a kitchen where nuts are present.
Alcohol Free - Fruit cakes contain Brandy, however, this can be omitted if desired.
Do we need to make an appointment to see you?
Consultations are by appointment only. This is completely without obligation. Please see the ‘Contact Us’ page for further details.
Do you require a deposit?
A deposit of £100 is required to secure your wedding cake order, which is non refundable. The remaining balance will be required one month before your wedding date. This will be discussed with you and detailed on your written quotation.
Can I change the design of my wedding cake?
Design alterations can be made up to, but no later than 1 month before collection/delivery. If the alteration affects the cost of the cake, then your balance will be adjusted accordingly.
